Word Spotters

Your child learns to recognize small common words — the, is, a, my — in books and signs.

Category: Literacy · Duration: ~7 min

Materials

1. Pick one word to start: "the." Write it on a small piece of paper or just point it out in a book. 2. Say, "This word is 'the.' It's everywhere! Let's find it." Open any picture book to a random page. 3. Let your little one scan the page and point every time they spot "the." Count how many you find. 4. Try a second word: "is" or "a." Same game — hunt and count. 5. Next time you read together, pause and let them spot their words: "Oh! You found 'the' again!"
