Practice turning a screw with a screwdriver — righty tighty, lefty loosey!

Materials

• screwdriver
• large screw
• piece of soft wood or thick cardboard

1. Show them the screwdriver and a large screw. "This is a tool grown-ups use a lot." 2. Teach the rhyme: "Righty tighty, lefty loosey." Practice turning your hand in both directions. 3. Press a large screw partway into soft wood or thick cardboard so it's started. 4. Let your little one practice turning it in — hold steady, turn slow. 5. Then practice unscrewing it. "You just used a real tool!"
