Smash Words
Your child smashes two small words together to make one big word — sun plus flower equals sunflower!
Category: Literacy · Duration: ~7 min
1. Hold up both hands. "This hand is 'sun.'" Wave the left. "This hand is 'flower.'" Wave the right. 2. Smash your hands together: "SUNFLOWER!" Your little one copies the smash. 3. Try more: cup + cake = cupcake, rain + bow = rainbow, butter + fly = butterfly, tooth + brush = toothbrush. 4. Now break words apart: "What two words are hiding inside 'bedroom'?" Bed and room! 5. End with a silly one: what if we smashed 'peanut' and 'banana'? Peanut-banana! Making up combos keeps it fun.
