Sound Safari

Your child hunts around the house saying the sound each letter makes, not its name.

Category: Literacy · Duration: ~8 min

Materials

1. Grab a handful of alphabet magnets or write five letters on scraps of paper. 2. Hold up a letter and say its sound — not its name. "This one says /b/, not 'bee.'" Let your little one repeat. 3. Now go on a safari! Walk around the room and find something that starts with that sound. B — ball! S — sock! 4. Once they get the hang of it, let them hold up a letter and YOU find the object. 5. End with their favorite three sounds and a silly round where you make each sound as loud or quiet as you can.
