Pick a big 'why' question and explore the answer together with simple experiments.

1. Ask your little one: what's something you've always wondered about? 2. If they're stuck, try one of these: why is the sky blue? Why are plants green? What happened to the dinosaurs? 3. Give a simple answer. Sky is blue because sunlight bounces around in the air and blue bounces the most. Plants are green because they have tiny green helpers inside that eat sunlight. 4. Ask follow-up questions: what else is blue? What would happen if the sky were red? 5. Tell them that asking questions is what scientists do — they're already being one.
