Practice dialing 9-1-1 on an old phone and saying your name and address.

Materials

• old phone or toy phone

1. Show your little one the numbers 9-1-1 on a phone. Let them press each one. 2. Explain: "This is only for real emergencies — when someone is very hurt or there's a fire." 3. Practice what to say: "My name is ___, I need help, I live at ___." Role-play it together. 4. Ask: "When should you NOT call 911?" Talk about the difference between emergencies and regular problems. 5. Practice one more time, start to finish: dial, say name, say address, describe the problem.
