Learn to tie a basic overhand knot using a thick piece of rope or a scarf.

Materials

• thick rope, scarf, or ribbon

1. Start with something thick and easy to grip — a scarf or jump rope works great. 2. Show them: make an X with the two ends, then tuck one end under and pull. 3. Say the rhyme: "Cross, tuck, pull!" as you do it. 4. Let them try. Guide their hands the first few times. 5. Once they get the basic knot, celebrate! This is a real skill.
