Practice sharpening a pencil and writing your name in big letters.

Materials

• pencil
• pencil sharpener
• paper

1. Show your little one a dull pencil. "See how it doesn't write well? Let's sharpen it." 2. Put the pencil in the sharpener and twist slowly. Let them try (hold it together if needed). 3. Test the sharp pencil on paper — much better! 4. Now practice writing their name in big letters. Guide their hand if needed. 5. Try a few times. Each one will look a little different — that's great.
