Make a simple drawing and learn to shade it light and dark with a pencil.

Materials

• paper
• pencil

1. Draw a big circle on the paper — tell your little one it's a ball. 2. Show them how pressing harder makes darker lines and pressing lightly makes soft ones. 3. Shade one side of the ball dark and leave the other side light. 4. Point out how it looks rounder now. Let them try on their own circle. 5. Try shading other shapes — a square becomes a box, a circle becomes the moon.
