1. Gather a few clean items from the trash: a cardboard box, a banana peel, a plastic wrapper. 2. Set up three zones: recycle, compost, garbage. 3. Hold up each item: "Where does this go?" Guide them with hints. 4. Cardboard and cans get recycled into new things. Food scraps can become soil. Some stuff just goes to the dump. 5.
